Balut, a boiled duck egg with a small embryo inside, is a delicacy
enjoyed all across Philippines. Though eating balut has gained global
stature as extreme gastronomy, the average Filipino considers it a
delicious treat. Unlike other street foods, balut is always safe as it
is always sold piping hot and sealed (unopened). Nutritious and
flavorful, it is a staple for people working late in the night or coming
home in the wee hours of the morning.
